NEW BLOG: We visited the brand new Isle of Harris Distillery last week as they celebrated their official grand opening. Today, they open to the public. And we can vouch for it being a fantastic new distillery and very welcoming to visitors. Can't wait for the whisky to roll out of here in a few years. Lagavulin Distillery was established in 1816 by John Johnston on the rocky south coast of the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. In 1908 Malt Mill Distillery was built next to Lagavulin Distillery but it closed in 1960 and although some of its buildings remain Malt Mill is now a lost distillery. Lagavulin is a malt whisky distillery which welcomes visitors at the Lagavulin visitor centre and offers distillery tours and participates in Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music, and sponsors the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival.
