Following a fire in 1826 he opened a new Royal Lochnagar Distillery close by the southern banks of the River Dee and in the shadow of Lochnagar Mountain which also supplied the distillery with water from wells on its lower slopes. Royal Lochnagar can claim the royal prefix, a royal warrant and royal neighbours in the summer time.
