Glenesk Distillery was situated on a mill lade beside the River Esk in Scotland’s Highland whisky region and originally named Highland Esk Distillery. Produced malt whisky up until 1938 when converted to produce grain whisky with the installation of Coffey stills and renamed Montrose Distillery. Became Hillside in 1964 when the Coffey stills were removed and pot stills installed once again. Operating with four stills and the name Glenesk Distillery in 1980 but then closed in 1985 and was demolished in 1996.
