The Whiskey Bible 2018 – World’s Best Whiskey

The Whiskey Bible 2018 reveals the World Whiskey of the Year. Last year saw what for many was another curve ball winner. A rye whiskey?! The year before saw a Canadian rye whiskey win top spot. But, we have to remember this is a publication to celebrate all whiskies, not just scotch. So what has taken top spot this year? Well, drum roll please….

Jim Murray’s 2018 Whiskey Bible World Whisky of the Year

Colonel EH Taylor Four Grain Bourbon

The Colonel EH Taylor Four Grain is the latest from Buffalo Trace’s line of small batch releases. It is inspired by the Colonel’s time as a grain trader during the American Civil war and is made using a mashbill of corn, rye, wheat and malted barley (hence the name ‘Four Grain’!) Buffalo Trace recently discovered the long-lost remains of the Colonel’s iconic O.F.C distillery in Kentucky, which was sadly destroyed by fire in 1872. Murray describes the Four Grain as “sheer undiluted beauty”.

Runner’s Up to Colonel EH Taylor Four Grain Bourbon:

Redbreast Aged 21 Years – From Ireland, a combination of malted and unmalted barley matured in a mixture of bourbon barrels and first-fill oloroso casks which makes for a rich and complex whiskey.

Glen Grant Aged 18 Years Rare Edition – From Aberlour in Speyside (Scotland), this single malt matures for at least 18 years in the highest quality, handpicked oak casks. This creates a glorious golden colour and tempting floral and oaky nose.
