Old Pulteney 1990 Vintage Highland single malt Scotch whiskey. Matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and Spanish oak ex-Sherry butts. The casks previously held heavily peated malt which gives this Vintage a slight smoky character.
Nose: Subtle, warm wood smoke envelopes the sweetness of peardrops & crunchy green apples. Fragrant floral notes, fresh lemon zest & honey are followed by a spicy & fruity touch of ex-sherry casks.
Palate: Full bodied & rich. The initial sweet honey note is quickly followed by a wave of thick peat smoke, joined a moment later by a spicy vanilla, toffee & rum smoked raisins.
Pulteney Distillery was established by James Henderson in 1826 in the coastal town of Wick, Caithness. Pulteney Distillery is a Highland malt whisky distillery equipped with worm tubs to cool the spirit from its single pair of particularly short stills. Thomas Telford designed the lade which originally carried all the water into the distillery, and a fragment of his stone channel survives in the back yard. Pulteney Distillery welcomes visitors to the distillery visitor centre where tours are available and Pulteney Distillery visitors can sample Old Pulteney single malt whisky.
